5 minutes. that is all it takes for us to walk home from ballet. 5 minutes where you talk to me about your class. you tell me stories about your day. you dance in the street like no-one is watching. when I pause to breathe in these ordinary moments, then I feel calm. when I listen to your stories, and see the wind catch your flyaway hair. when I watch you dance, and the light shines in your eyes then I connect with you. when we find a tree filled with purple flowers and your make funny faces at me. however, when I rush, and focus on my list of jobs… the dinner to prepare…the washing to take from the clothes line…the homework we need to finish, well then I feel overwhelmed. i am learning to slow down, and you are teaching me that these beautiful ordinary moments are more important than any to-do list.
